Finally.....YESS!!!

Image
After three attempts, finally I managed to complete my full marathon below 6 hours!! Gun time 05:47:29 and Net time 05:44:25 at Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon 2013 last sunday 29th september 2013. My first FM was 06:28 in 2011 and my second FM was 06:23 last year. Both at SCKLM. I am still on cloud nine! Alhamdulillah.  Now can rest from FM.  I want to enjoy and put more cycling mileage after this.

Run, Bike or Just Do Whatever You Like

This is the game plan for this weekend. Friday Night: Futsal match with fellow SDARA '84. It will be competitive game, I can ensure that even though we call it friendly game. He he....it will not be a friendly when inter-batch bragging rights are at stake plus a challenge trophy to grab! Saturday: to rest for running event on Sunday, but of course that will include normal and usual Saturday duties. Kids have co-curriculum activities in the morning and tuitions in the afternoon. Also need to go to pasar tani to buy usual stuffs. Sunday: I have to choose between running for 14.5km somewhere in Puncak Alam in the Dragon Back Run 2013, or to participate in the 48km Challenge Category in the middle of Kuala Lumpur in the OCBC Ride 2013. I am choosing to do the Dragon Back Run, because of the challenge it provides. Not often you will get the opportunity to tackle the hills of the famous dragon back route on foot. I have tackled the route on my bike before and the sight of the ...

Malakoff Powerman Challenge 2012

Image
I never thought that one day I will be doing a duathlon event.  Really and seriously, I thought it was beyond me. I have set a personal target to do a Full Marathon (42km) run at the age of 42, which I did. But still I thought a duathlon event still a step too far.  In fact I did the FM twice already, at the StanChart KL Marathon - in year 2011 and this year. I still struggled to complete the 42km run within 6 hours. I was not satisfied with my trainings, I mean with my commitment to the rigorous training demands of doing a Full Marathon event. If you don't have enough mileage, there is no way your body could withstand the running over 42km within 6 hours, injury free. In my case, my training would always start to slack towards the closer date of the FM event. Coming back to this Malakoff Powerman 2012 event, I registered for the Sprint Category mainly because I felt so 'tercabar' when a friend of mine put up in the fb that he has registered himself for the event. You s...

StanChart KL Marathon 2011

Allow me to savour this moment! Wearing the finisher's tee with pride after the gruelling race. Untuk anak-anak, your baba completed his first full marathon at the age of 42. It shows that nothing is impossible if you put your minds, your hearts and efforts into it. Cheers! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

StanChart KL Marathon 2011

Getting ready for the biggest physical and mental challenge in my life, so far..... I am running in category 'B' - that is for Full Marathon Men Veterans. This is going to be my first attempt to run a full marathon (42km). The qualifying time is 6 hours. Wish me luck... - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Lazy

I am getting lazier to run nowadays. This morning, i could only run for 10km after much coaxing from within. This is not good. I blamed it on the result of FA cup finals last nite where my home state was beaten 1 - 2 to the neighbouring state. Alasan.... This is certainly not good. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

New Balance N663. Tested and giving two thumps up. Had a good run this morning. The first since Ramadhan. But still undecided if I want to participate in the Mizuno Wave 11km run next week.

StanChart KL Marathon 2010

Image
AlhamdulilLah....., I managed to complete the race - even though I felt like crawling to the finishing line. The Finisher's medal. My personal hand time was 3hrs and 02 mins. I tried all my might to clock within the qualifying time of 3hrs but I just couldn't. The last one km starting from the turn near Medan Tuanku to Dataran Merdeka seemed like one and a half mile. But nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised with my own timing. My earlier target was to finish the race in 4 hours. I was surprised that I managed to run non-stop and kept a consistent pace for the first one and a half hour. I didn't stop for a drink at the first water station at 4km mark. Since I carried my own mineral water, I just drank from my bottle. I also didn't stop at the second water station at 6.5km mark. It turned out to be a good decision as I kept on running until the third water station at 8.5km mark. By this time i have emptied my mineral water. I ran to the furthest table and asked the vo...

Race Day Update

The finisher medal. The reward for the fun this morning. I left home about 10 minutes after 5.00AM. Just blew kisses to my wife before I left because I was ready with my ablution and had all planned that the first thing to do once I reach Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Contry Club was to find a prayer room. Reached the public parking space near the Securities Commission at about 5.30AM. There were already many cars and I could see the early birds were walking towards the club. After asking for a direction at the secretariat, I went straight to the club house where the surau is located. The guard manning the club house just woke up from his 'jaga' duties. Ha hah ha...were they paying him to sleep or to do 'jaga' works? Still plenty of time before the starting time at 7.00AM. This time I knew that I need to have a proper warm up. I realised that I would be losing precious time if I were to warm up on the run. We were given pink ribbons before the start and at exa...

The Race Day

Yes....thank God I managed to complete the race within the qualifying time. Based on personal hand timing, I clocked 1hr 24 mins and 52 seconds. The qualifying time for the 12KM event is 1hr 35 minutes. AlhamdulilLah. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Ready to Run?

Image
Yes, are you ready to run? What: Malakoff 12KM, Kuala Lumpur 2009 When: Tomorow (20th December, 2009) Where: Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Club So this is it. It's going to be my last running event for this year. I never thought I would ever enjoy and embrace the fun of running and competing in competitive running events. My target is to complete the event within the qualifying time of 1hr and 35 minutes. InshaAllah. Will give my best shot. *************************** Today's training log: Distance: 9.23km Time: 0: 41: 54 Activity: cycling all the up to the new Bukit Antarabangsa mosque at Taman Bukit Utama Average Climb: 197m (highest point 200m) Average speed: 13:21 km/h Highest speed downhill: 46.7 km/h.

Trial Run

If the trial run that I had last Sunday were to be used as the indication of my performance for this coming running event , adoyai..... I need to buck up. Last Sunday I clocked 1hr: 39mins: 43 seconds for 12KM or thereabout. Average speed of 6.74 km/hour; average pace of 8:54 per km and average climb of 75meters.That means I may not be able to finish within the qualifying time of 1hr 35minutes set by the organizers. I thought the distance I covered for the first 50 minutes or so was much better than what I did on Sunday the 13th November. In fact, I actually managed to run non-stop for the first 6.3KM including a killer hill near the International School in Taman Melawati with a climb of 94meters (more than 300 feet). That was a big improvement compared to the other weekend but still.....a bit frustrated. May be I got a little bit of dreaming and my mind was wandering too much from the task at hand thus I did not realise that my pace was getting slower towards the final 40 ...

Update Duke*thon

Image
(Picture: the start(yellow)/end(white) arches) AlhamdulilLah, the run went out quite alright for me. I reached the place quite early roughly about fifteen minutes before seven in the morning. I saw the organiser was trying to put up the hot air balloon. Went round and round looking for registration booth but turned out that there was no need for registration. They just collect the slip once the participants were gathered in the starting area. This time the build up was not as exciting as the one I had experienced during the KL Marathon 2009 . There was flurry of camera flashes when the VIP arrived and suddenly I heard the starting gun shot. Haiyaa, tak thrill langsung . I was with my office partner for the first 1 - 1.5km when I found it though to follow his pace, so I drifted behind a bit but I could still see him in the crowd about 20 meters from me. Well, that's what happen when you don't train much! Heh he he... My partner has been running very diligently as...

Anyone Game for a Run?

Image
Any body game for a run? When? Tomorrow (morning of course). Where? DUKE (Duta Ulu Kelang Expressway). Distance? 5KM. InshaAllah I will be participating in the Dukethon event tomorrow - just for fun. This will be my second time participating in a run after the 10KM event during the KL Marathon earlier this year. Just like before, this is just suka-suka and for personal satisfaction. No way I am going to compete with those serious runners. Come and join the fun. There are many other interesting activities besides the 5KM run. Wish me luck!
